2013-14 Goalie Rankings

(by Lessy)

The first installment of the 2013 fantasy hockey rankings at the Fantasy Hockey Café will feature the goaltender position.  One of the most important things to distinguish is the difference between a good goalie and a good fantasy goalie.  In fantasy you need to consider the team the goalie plays on more than how good the actual player in question may be.  This is the reason Pekka Rinne (probably a top 5 goalie in terms of talent) doesn’t crack my top 10 while Corey Crawford, a mediocre starter, is ranked 4th.  The four primary goalie statistics used in fantasy leagues are wins, goals against average, save percentage and shutouts.  Remember you are drafting not only the goalie himself but the team he plays for as well (similar to drafting a defence in fantasy football).  Also of note is that goalies are typically more valuable in Rotisserie leagues than points-based leagues.  Here are the top 40 fantasy goalies for the 2013-14 season. (by jphanned)

We got together 12 of the Cafe’s finest veterans for this mock draft and produced some excellent results during the past three weeks. This year the pack has broken up a bit, and there is much more debate about where to rank players below the upper tier. Do you draft the player who broke out last season, or do you go for the player who had a disappointing year but is due to bounce back? These veterans will help you answer your questions with pick-by-pick analysis and commentary. Here are the results, enjoy! [More]
